Lions Upset Embry-Riddle in Season Finale

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team upset the Embry-Riddle Eagles, 1-0, in Tuesday's season finale. Nina Mueller netted the game-winner, her second-straight game finding the back of net. Under the direction of first-year head coach Peter McGahey, the Lions wrapped up the year with a 7-9-1 record, 4-6 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

The freshman midfielder captured a pass from Carolina Solis-Deleon, shook off her defender, and slung a left footed zinger to the top right corner of the net in the 34th minute. The first half goal would be enough to carry the Lions over the Eagles (8-5-1, 6-3-1 SSC).

Mueller paced the Green and Gold offense all night with three shots. Embry-Riddle edged Saint Leo on the shot count battle, 8-6.

In the net, Julia Ortiz, a four-year senior, closed out her collegiate career with a pair of saves.
