SAINT LEO, Fla. – With just two matches left in the regular season the Saint Leo volleyball team made a statement to the NCAA South Region selection committee with an impressive 3-1 victory over visiting Embry-Riddle Saturday night. The loss was just the sixth of the season for the Eagles as the Lions honored their six seniors with a statement victory late in the season.

The Lions' senior class of
Fabiola Rosado,
Victoria Omoregie,
Anilise Fitzi,
Allie Daul,
Nina Vattovaz and
Annabella Arcari were honored prior to the match. The Lions went on to capture their 20
th victory of the season, marking the third time in the six seniors' careers that the Lions have gone over the 20-wins mark in a season.

The victory moved the Lions' record to 20-10 in 2019 and 11-8 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Eagles of Embry-Riddle fell to 19-6 overall and 12-6 in league action.

Junior
Ashley Quero led the way offensively for the Lions with a season-high 20 kills. She also added 11 digs and a block. Fitzi nearly captured a triple-double as she put down 14 kills, dug up 10 balls and led the team with seven blocks. She collected her 14 kills on just 22 swings while posting a .591 hitting percentage. The senior from Walton, New Zealand was a perfect 9-for-9 on her first nine attempts in the contest before settling down for a 14-of-22 night with one error. She also posted a team-best three service aces in the victory.

Omoregie closed out her home career with eight kills and a pair of blocks while Arcari posted six kills and three blocks. Rosado dug up eight balls while primarily serving for the Lions. The final senior, Daul, came on late in the fourth set and registered the game-winning kill to close out the match.

Anna Garrett dished out 47 assists while collecting 13 digs while sophomore libero
Payton Bellano finished with a match-high 21 digs. Freshman
Skylar Singleton posted double-digit digs with 15 while also putting down a pair of service aces.

The Lions opened up a huge lead in the first set, 19-10 before the Eagles battled back. It was too little, too late for Embry-Riddle as the Lions won the opening set 26-24. The second set went the Lions way 25-18 before the Eagles swung momentum their way with a 25-17 third set victory. The final set featured the Lions leading from start to finish before collecting a 25-16 victory.

Saint Leo will return to action Thursday night as they close out the regular season at Rollins for a 7 p.m. match. Â
