SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions and Lynn Fighting Knights each took 10 shots Wednesday night at the Saint Leo Lions Soccer Field. Lynn's first half corner kick was converted in at the 41
st minute, which proved to be enough for the win in the Sunshine State Conference 1-0 battle. The loss marked the Lions' sixth-straight drop while the Fighting Knights moved to three-straight without a loss.
Saint Leo (5-9-1, 2-6 SSC) held plenty of possession in the midfield but was unable to crack the Lynn's (5-7-3, 2-4-3 SSC) defensive line. The Green and Gold's offense was paced by
Kennedy Messina and
Raylyn Straubmuller with two shots apiece. The Lions out shot the Fighting Knights in the second half, 7-4, but was unable to match the Lynn's header corner kick goal before the half.
Julia Ortiz had a big presence in the net with seven saves, increasing her season count to 64.
Saint Leo looks ahead to Saturday, Nov. 2 to host Florida Southern during the team's senior night. The Lions will celebrate
Julia Ortiz,
Rebecca Anderson,
Rebecca Niblett,
Emily Baker, and
Adriana Tirado before the kickoff set for 7 p.m.
