Lions Ledger: Volleyball hosts a pair of SSC opponents

  • Saint Leo enters the weekend coming off back-to-back 3-1 losses after opening the Sunshine State Conference season 3-0.
  • Saint Leo leads the all-time series with Lynn, 29-14, and the Lions have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two programs. The last win by the Fighting Knights in the series came Nov. 11, 2016 in Boca Raton, 3-2. Lynn has not defeated the Lions in Saint Leo since Sept. 22, 2012, a string of six-straight defeats.
  • Saint Leo leads the all-time series with Nova Southeastern, 29-21, has won seven of the last 10 matches versus the Sharks. The Sharks snapped a four-match win streak by the Lions in the series last season.
  • Senior Anilise Fitzi and junior Ashley Quero are tied for the team lead in 2019 with 137 kills over the first 13 matches while Fitzi continues to pace the defense with 55 blocks, 21 more than her nearest teammate.
  • Lynn enters the weekend with an impressive 11-1 record including a perfect 4-0 conference mark. The Fighting Knights have defeated both Barry and Palm Beach Atlantic this season while the Lions split with those two programs.
  • Junior Sonja Udovcic leads the Fighting Knights with 138 kills this season while junior Lauren Odom leads on the defensive side with 47 total blocks. Junior Marnie Kinna is the reigning SSC Offensive Player of the Week while both Udovcic and Odom have received weekly honors this season.
  • Nova Southeastern enters the weekend with an 8-4 record including a 1-3 conference mark. The Sharks and Lions have faced two similar opponents in Palm Beach Atlantic and Barry. Both the Lions and Sharks lost to Barry 3-1 while the Lions defeated PBA 3-1 on the road and the Sharks lost to the Sailfish 3-0 at home.
  • Redshirt junior Ally Ford leads the Sharks with 163 kills this season, 67 more than her nearest teammate. Junior Alex Boone and freshman Brittany Landrum lead the defensive side of the net for the Sharks. Boone has 38 total blocks while Landrum has posted 35.
