ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team earned their second straight victory in comeback fashion at Eckerd's Johnson Field Wednesday night. The Lions topped the Tritons 2-1 as
Kelli Hippenmeyer tallied her season's first goal alongside
Carolina Solis-Deleon's game-winning performance, becoming the Green and Gold's 2019 leading scorer.
Eckerd (4-2-1, 0-2-1) capitalized on a long set-piece with a header goal by Lashanti Williams in the 16
th minute.
Saint Leo (5-3-1, 2-0-0) was able to answer the host's quick-strike 14 minutes later.
Briana Yamamoto served a beautiful ball just outside of the box to
Kelli Hippenmeyer, who one-timed the pass into the upper right corner of the Tritons' net.
The Sunshine State Conference matchup stayed tied until the 76
th minute when
Carolina Solis-Deleon broke away from the Tritons' defense and drilled the game-winner, recording her third goal of the season.
Julia Ortiz earned her fifth win in the net, now with a 5-3-1 mark. The senior goalkeeper earned four saves which increased her season count to 39.
After a pair of games on the road, Saint Leo returns home to host Rollins on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
