SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team surrendered a 1-0 decision to the Florida Tech Panthers Saturday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. The wet and windy evening marked the Panthers' first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) win while snapping a six-game winless streak.
Saint Leo (5-6-1, 2-3-0 SSC) won the shot count and corner kick battles respectively. The Green and Gold put together 10 shots forcing four big saves by the visiting goalkeeper, Maria Sanchez Recuero. The Lions were awarded five corner kicks over the Panthers three takes.
Florida Tech (3-7-2, 1-4-1 SSC) captured the conference win in the 17
th minute. Alyssa Bartle had enough wiggle room in the box to strike the game-winner, her second goal of the season.
The Lions 10 shots were led by
Adriana Tirado and
Nina Mueller with a pair each. The attackers each placed a shot on goal.
Julia Ortiz was forced to take the loss in the net without any saves, moving her record to 5-6-1.
Saint Leo enters the next week of action sitting sixth in the SSC standings. The Lions will take a short trip down the highway to Tampa's Pepin Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 23. There, Saint Leo hopes to snap their three-game skid over the fourth-seed Spartans. The rivals are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.
