Lions Kept Scoreless at #7 Panthers

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team's high scoring streak was put to a halt Saturday night at No. 7 Florida Tech. In the Lions previous two matches, the Green and Gold compiled five goals but came up empty against the nationally-ranked SSC foes; 3-0. Florida Tech's flex extends the program's undefeated season while holding the second-seed among the Sunshine State Conference standings; Saint Leo remains the third-seed.

Saint Leo (6-6, 3-3 SSC) was held to four shots in the midst of fighting off 16 shots by the Panthers. Mathis Hardy, Gabriel Rickmann, Guillaume Campos and Mauro Dias each took a turn attempting to find the back of Florida Tech's net.

Florida Tech (5-0-1, 9-0-1) registered all three goals within 12 minutes of each other starting at the 26th minute. The Panthers capitalized on a man-up situation, beginning in the 27th minute as Federico Toschi was issued a red card. With one less player on the field, Lions' goalkeeper, Wessel Berenschot, had a busy night with a big seven save performance.

The Green and Gold will enjoy the next two games back at home, beginning with a rival game under the Saint Leo Soccer Field lights. Saint Leo will host Tampa, the SSC ninth-seed, on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
