MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Buccaneer Field Saturday night. A slow start proved costly as the Barry Buccaneers' early pair of goals would be enough to claim the Sunshine State Conference decision.
Barry's (3-6, 3-2 SSC) offensive onslaught came at the sixth and 18th-minute marks. Lauren Hall, assisted by Tash Hudson, snuck by the Lions' backline for the go-ahead goal. Ari Cerezuela tallied the insurance goal, finishing a give-and-go play with assists by Sofia de la Puente and Minda Forsblom.
Saint Leo (5-5-1, 2-2 SSC) generated six shots on frame, matching the hosts shots on target tally, despite being out-shot by the Bucs 16-8. Eight different Lions helped in the offensive efforts led by
Carolina Solis-Deleon with two takes.
In goal,
Julia Ortiz put up four saves for the Green and Gold. Ortiz senior campaign has already compiled 49 saves, a 0.766 save percentage, and a 1.37 goals allowed average.
A scheduled bye week inks the next Saint Leo women's soccer game on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The Lions will host the Florida Tech Panthers with kickoff at 7 p.m.
