DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team hit the road Friday night to face the Sunshine State Conference leader Embry-Riddle. The Eagles looked to be cruising to a 3-0 sweep over the Lions but Saint Leo would not go away that easily as the Lions fought back down 2-0 to face a fifth and decisive set. The Eagles came out victorious in the final set to preserve their top spot in the standings.

The loss drops Saint Leo's record to 11-5 and 5-3 in conference play while the Eagles improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in league action.

Victoria Omoregie led the Lions with 13 kills while also picking up a pair of blocks. Classmate
Nina Vattovaz added 11 kills while fellow senior
Anilise Fitzi chipped in 10. Fitzi led the team with seven blocks as well including one solo stop while Vattovaz added three blocks. Vattovaz also posted a double-double as she had 10 digs in the contest.

Redshirt junior
Anna Garrett dished out 46 assists over the five sets while also leading the team with 21 digs. Sophomore libero
Payton Bellano finished second on the team in digs with 16.

The Eagles won the opening two sets 25-22 and 25-14. The Lions came back to take the third set 25-19 before a back-and-forth fourth set ended in the Lions' favor 29-27. The final set was all Eagles as Embry-Riddle cruised to a 15-3 victory.

Saint Leo will return to action tomorrow, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. as the Lions travel to Florida Tech.
