Eagles Tame Lions Offense, Saint Leo Falls 72-36

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions offense was tamed by the Embry-Riddle Eagles in a 72-36 decision Saturday night.

Saint Leo (6-8, 1-5 SSC) traveled to Florida's east coast with a season field goal average of 37.9-percent while knocking down 7.5 three-pointers per game. Instead of its electrifying offense around the arch, Saint Leo was held to a field goal average of 24.5-percent with one bucket from downtown.

Alani Gallagher dished out a team-high 10 points while grabbing four rebounds and a block. Casey Wortley earned a team-high 10 rebounds. Alex Button contributed six points and five rebounds.

Embry-Riddle (9-4, 4-2 SSC) was paced by Nicole Tucker with a game-high 16 points along with six rebounds. As a team, the Eagles posted a 44.1-percent from the field. The Eagles also out-rebounded the Lions 43-33 in the program's third consecutive victory.

How It Happened
  • Saint Leo saw only 1-of-14 field goals sit down in the first ten minutes. Alex Button hit the good jumper at 7:15 to cut Embry-Riddle lead to six at 8-2. Three minutes later, Gina Brierley added two points from the charity stripe. The four points from the Lions handed the Eagles a 10-4 lead after one.
  • The Lions offense found a rhythm with a pair of jumpers while they stayed hot on the line. Madelin Lang's jumper cut the Eagles lead to five, 15-10 at 5:10. Despite the offensive jumpstart, Embry-Riddle's Morgan Ackermann scored eight points extending the Eagles lead to 26-15 at the half.
  • Olivia Lough's good jumper kept the score within single digits, 32-23 at 7:01. Over the remainder of the third the Eagles offense took flight outscoring the Lions 16-5, for a score of 48-28 entering the fourth.
  • Nicole Tucker's good free throw handed the Eagles their first taste of a 30-point gap. Embry-Riddle tallied its largest lead at 39 points (72-33) before Abby Zeitsiff knocked down Saint Leo's lone three-pointer of the night. Zeitsiff's bucket from downtown was the last to fall for either team.
