SAINT LEO, Fla. – Playing in front of its home fans for just the second time this season, the Saint Leo volleyball team put on a show Friday night as they dominated the Panthers of Florida Tech in route to a 3-0 sweep. The nearly 500-strong crowd pushed the Lions throughout the match as the team grew stronger with each set.
Saint Leo (7-6, 4-1 SSC) was led by sophomore
Ashley Quero who had 12 kills on 21 swings while assisting on a pair of blocks. Junior
Nina Vattovaz chipped in nine kills, a team-high three service aces, four digs and a pair of blocks as well. Senior
Dallas Jasper and junior
Annabella Arcari patrolled the middle and each finished with eight kills on the night. Jasper finished with a .438 hitting percentage with one error while Arcari was nearly perfect at .727 with no errors on 11 attempts. Jasper led the squad with five block assists while Arcari finished with a solo stop and one block assist.
The Lions held Florida Tech (4-9, 1-4 SSC) to a team hitting percentage of .041 and allowed just 21 kills over the three sets. The Lions hit .299 as a team and put down 46 kills on the night.
Junior transfer
Anilise Fitzi came on in the final set and made a splash as she connected on her first three attempts for kills and then closed out the match with a massive attack that ricocheted off a Panther defender for the final kill of the night.
Freshman
Cassandra Kamien dished out 38 assists over the three sets while also digging up six balls. Senior
Reggie Van Devender continued her strong play at libero by leading the team with 15 digs while also putting down a service ace.
The Lions won the opening set 25-18 before cruising in the final two sets 25-15 and 25-12.
Saint Leo continues its home stand Saturday afternoon as the Lions welcome in Embry-Riddle for a 4 p.m. match.
