Hardy’s 60th minute goal not enough against the Eagles

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team fell 2-1 in the Lions' home opener against Sunshine State Conference opponent, Embry-Riddle, on Saturday.
 
Saint Leo (2-3, 0-1 SSC) saw Embry-Riddle (2-2, 1-0 SSC) take an early lead in the 13th minute.
 
Mathis Hardy's 60th minute equalizer surprised the Eagles with a quick strike, converting the free kick outside the box. Hardy finished the night with two shots along with teammates Kentin Olive and Michael Tinari.
 
In the 80th minute, the whistle blew and the clocked stopped, awarding the Eagles a penalty kick. Alex O'Brien netted the game-winner.
 
Christian Evans earned the start in goal. He grabbed two saves in 34 minutes of work. Wessel Berenschot protected the Lions' net for 55 minutes, during which he grabbed one save.
 
Saint Leo travels to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, September 19 for a 7 p.m. start against the Sailfish.
