Lions Ledger: Volleyball heads to Denver over the Weekend

Volleyball travels west to face some nationally ranked competition

Saint Leo travels to the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colo., after opening the season with a 2-2 mark at the Flagler Saints Invitational. The Lions defeated Erskine and No. 25 Flagler while falling to Findlay and No. 3 Minnesota Duluth.
Victoria Omoregie led the attack with 40 kills on the weekend posting 17 in the win over No. 25 Flagler. Ashley Quero came in just behind Omoregie with 36 kills over the four matches including a career-high 23 in the five set victory over the Saints.
Freshman Payton Bellano made her collegiate debut as the Lions starting libero and averaged 4.79 digs per set in the squads four opening matches. She joined the 30-dig club for the first time in her career in the victory over Flagler as she dug up 32 balls.
The Colorado Premier Challenge features 12 teams competing at two sites over two days. Seven of the 12 teams are ranked among the AVCA NCAA Division II Top 25 including the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams in the country.
Saint Leo will face Colorado Christian (2-3) and No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State (2-2) on day one with the potential of facing two more ranked teams on Saturday.
