Sammy Marshall, of the Saint Leo softball team were selected as the 2018 NFCA Division II South Region Coaching Staff of the Year, the Association announced.

Representing each of the NFCA's eight Division II regions, these respective coaching staffs – West Chester University (Atlantic), Southern Arkansas University (Central), Saint Anselm College (East), University of Southern Indiana (Midwest), Saint Leo University (South), Angelo State University (South Central), University of North Georgia (Southeast) and Chico State (West) are now eligible for the NFCA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year award. Which will be announced June 13.

The list includes national champion Southern Indiana and national runner-up Saint Anselm. Additionally, Angelo State garnered its second straight recognition, while Chico State, Saint Anselm and Saint Leo are first-time coaching staff of the year recipients.

Kinberger and her staff led the Lions to a 39-18 record this past season where they made a run to the National semifinals after reaching the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. The Lions swept the South 2 Regional, defeating host and No. 2 seed North Alabama twice. They then topped Alabama-Huntsville in a thrilling best of three Super Regional in Saint Leo, Fla. Overall the Lions compiled an 8-3 mark in NCAA postseason play. They also became the first SSC program to reach the DII National Championships since Barry in 2009.
