SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 3 seed Lynn upset No. 1 seed Saint Leo 5-4 in the NCAA South Regional II final at the Saint Leo Tennis Center on Tuesday, May 1. The Lions finish the 2018 season with an overall record of 22-2.
Saint Leo snagged a 2-1 lead during a barn burner doubles battle. Second doubles made up by
Francisco Aparicio and
Aurel Ciocanu hustled for a comeback 8-6 decision to tie the match 1-1. First doubles, No. 2
Thomas Grinberg and
Vincent Suillerot also secured a comeback win, handing in an 8-4 final.
Lynn rallied taking the fifth (6-3, 6-0), sixth (6-4, 6-2) and fourth (6-2, 6-1) singles matches.
Jaime Bueno captured a 6-0, 6-4 third singles win while
Vincent Suillerot recorded a 7-5, 6-1 second singles decision to tie the match at 4-4.
With the trip to the NCAA Championship on the line, Lynn's Jean-Baptiste Mateo captured a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory at first singles to claim the ticket.
