Women's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo returned to the win column on Wed., Dec. 19 with a 73-62 win over Shaw at the Lynn University Holiday Classic. After three straight non-conference games, the Sunshine State Conference eighth seed Saint Leo returns to conference action hosting first seed Rollins.
  • In the month of December, the Lions saw four career-high performances. Casey Wortley registered career-high double-double to lead Saint Leo 50-45 over Palm Beach Atlantic on Dec. 1. Delaney Bernard posted career-high 32 points in the team's 93-60 win over Trinity while becoming the program's newest single game three-point record holder at 10 on Dec. 4. Olivia Lough topped her personal performance with 13 points in the Lions 64-49 loss to Johnson C. Smith on Dec. 18. Alex Button joined the fun with career-high 17 points in the 73-60 win over Shaw on Dec. 19.
  • Wortley leads the Lion offense and rebounding. She leads the Green and Gold scoring with 136 points, averaging 12.4 PPG. The 6'3 forward reenters SSC action shooting 43-percent from the field, 33-percent from the three-point range, and 70-percent from the line. Off the glass, Wortley averages 6.1 RPG with 12 offensive and 55 defensive rebounds.
  • Button holds the team's highest field percentage at 52-percent, averaging 5.0 PPG. Meanwhile, Gina Brierley averages 9.8 PPG, shooting 37-percent from the floor. Brierley is the playmaker with 50 assists.
  • Alani Gallagher helps off the window with 5.8 RPG after 64 grabs coming from 21 offensive, 43 defensive rebounds. She averages 7.7 PPG as the team's third highest scorer.  
  • Rollins returns to the hardwood coming off four consecutive victories, three among SSC competition and the Tars last win over Trinity Christian (85-46).
  • Carly McLendon is the Tars hot shooter averaging 10 PPG, shooting 64-percent from the floor. She has yet to attempt a bucket from the three-point range. McLendon also leads the Tars in rebounds with 8.3 RPG with 29 offensive snatches and 26 defensive.
  • Denise Daniels helps efforts with 9.6 PPG, shooting 48-percent from the field. She has yet to make a three-point bucket but has also only put up one shot beyond the arch.
  • Yari Martinez-Toro (27), Jaylynn Harrison (24), Rachel Lia (24), and Vernisha Andrews (22) all share the play making responsibilities as assist leaders.
  • How they match up: Rollins averages 66.6 PPG, 42.3 RPG, shooting a team 43-field goal percent. Saint Leo averages 61.6 PPG, 35.4 RPG, shooting a team 39-field goal percent.
  • Last meeting: Saint Leo upset Rollins with a season sweep last season. On Dec. 9, 2017, Saint Leo upset #8 Rollins on the road, 44-34. Saint Leo followed its performance defeating Rollins 67-55 on Feb. 23, 2018, earning a ticket to the SSC postseason.

Men's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo returns to the Marion Bowman Activities Center after a short break for the Holidays. The Lions last two games were at the Mocs Christmas Classic where the Green and Gold went 1-1 after defeating Bloomfield 72-63 and falling to Cedarville 77-70.
  • In the two games, Isaiah Hill and Junior Searcy paced the team with 12.5 points per game where Yalen Reed was third at 12.0 ppg and Kyran McClure was at 11.0 ppg.
  • Reed paced the team with 18 total rebounds and three blocks between the two games where Hill was the team leader in assists at 11.
  • On the year, McClure continues to pace the Lions offensive with 13.9 points per game while he has a team high 16 steals, and 33 assists.  Yalen Reed is the team leader in rebounds with 55, at 5.0 per game, and blocks with 19.
  • Rollins returns to SSC play after playing in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Holiday Hoops Classic where they suffered two losses to Angelo State, 89-79, and Tarleton State, 72-53.
  • On the year, the Tars are paced by Jakobi Bonner who averages 16.1 points per game with 177 total scored on the season, ahead of Connor McKim at 154 and 14.0 ppg. Bonner paces the team in rebounding with 4.8 per game, 53 total, as McKim is the team leader in assists, 31, and steals, 24.
  • The Matchup: Rollins averages 79.3 points per game and holds opponents to 72.8 (+6.5) where the Lions average 72.2 ppg and allow opponents to score 74.6 (-2.5).
  • Series: The Tars hold a 7-3 lead over the last five seasons in the head-to-head matchup where the Lions have dropped the last five games on the road or at home. The last Green and Gold win over the Tars came in the 2015-16 season when the Lions defeated the Tars 77-75 in the Marion Bowman Activities Center, before that was the 2014-15 season when Saint Leo swept Rollins 57-54 in OT and 69-58. Most recently, the Tars swept the 2016-17 series (77-72, 82-74) and the 2017-18 series (86-58, 81-66).
