LAKELAND, Fla. – Despite four Lions scoring in double-figures, Saint Leo men's basketball fell in the Terrace Hotel Classic opener, 76-76 to Stonehill Friday inside the George W. Jenkins Field House at Florida Southern College.
Yalen Reed posted a career-high 20 points to lead the Lions (2-3), where he also hauled in five rebounds on the night.
Junior Searcy,
Kyran McClure and
Isaiah Hill joined Reed in double-figures as Searcy and Hill flirted with double-doubles with 13 points, seven rebounds and 10 points, seven rebounds, respectively. McClure notched 12 points in the loss.
The Skyhawks (3-3) saw Dan Largey pace the team with 27 points where two other players scored in double-figures.
How It Happened
- Saint Leo once again jumped out to a quick lead, 7-3, after Yalen Reed's four points and Junior Searcy's three-pointer.
- The Skyhawks soared back and took a two-point lead, 9-7, with 14:15 to play before pushing things to 10 points, 17-7 with 11:53 to go.
- The Lions would rally to cut it to 38-23 on a Isaiah Hill layup before a Reed tip-in brought the game to the halftime score, 38-25 in favor of Stonehill.
- The Lions came flying out of the gates and cut it to seven points 38-31 before a Daniel Duarte dunk made it 40-43 with 14:55 to play in regulation.
- Stonehill answered with its own run, 18-5, and made it a 58-47 with less than 10 minutes to play.
- Saint Leo wouldn't back down and brought the game to just five points, 65-60 with 5:41 to go on two Searcy free throws.
- The Skyhawks would push things back out to double-digits before going on for the nine-point win, 76-67.
