Lions Drop Season Opener to Chargers, 69-57

TAMPA, Fla. – Saint Leo men's basketball started off hot inside the Bob Martinez Athletics Center in Tampa against Alabama-Huntsville, but dropped game one to the Chargers, 69-57.
 
Saint Leo (0-1) saw Junior Searcy and Isaiah Hill pace the Green and Gold on the day scoring in double-figures. Searcy tallied a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Searcy capped off the season opener with five rebounds and four assists.
 
Hill notched 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting with three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Tyler Carter scored eight points and hauled in nine rebounds in his Green and Gold debut.
 
The Chargers (1-0) were led by Sam Orf and Seth Swalve, who each tallied double-digits. Orf scored a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds where Swalve scored 11 points.
 
How It Happened
  • Saint Leo opened up the game on a 7-0 run behind Isaiah Hill's five points and Junior Searcy's layup.
  • The Chargers cut the deficit to one point with 3:31 to play, 30-29, before closing the half on a 6-0 run to tie things at 35-35.
  • The Lions climbed out to a six point lead in the second half, 41-35, before UAH answered with a 6-0 run evening the score, 41-41.
  • The Chargers would take the lead, 43-41 with 16:20 to play, and never look back, eventually building out to their largest lead of 12 points with 40-ticks left and the final on two free throws by Seth Swalve.
