SAINT LEO, Fla. – It took just three sets Friday night for the Saint Leo volleyball team to pick up its seventh Sunshine State Conference victory of the season as the Lions swept the visiting Fighting Knights of Lynn University. The Lions used a balanced attack with its top five hitters picking up six or more kills in the match.

The victory evens out the Lions record at 10-10 while improving their SSC mark to 7-5. The Fighting Knights fell to 11-9 on the year and 5-8 in league play.

Freshman setter
Cassandra Kamien continued to show her ability to distribute the ball all over the court as she picked up 35 assists, 13 digs and five blocks in the victory. Sophomore
Ashley Quero led the attack with 10 kills while compiling a .360 hitting percentage. She was flanked by junior
Annabella Arcari, who had nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage, and junior
Victoria Omoregie, who had eight kills and a pair of blocks.

"I'm very proud of how we took care of home court today," said interim head coach
Erik Peterson. "We've been talking a lot about that this week and we knew that this was a team that could come in and get very hot, very quick. They have a lot of really good hitters and they play with a lot of emotion. When they get momentum going they are hard to stop. I am excited that we were able to go out and really set the tone tonight and compete at the level we did."

Juniors
Nina Vattovaz and
Anilise Fitzi added seven and six kills, respectively, as they each hit above .400 for the match. As a squad the Lions put down an impressive .389 hitting percentage while compiling just six errors over the three sets including a flawless first set.

The Lions also poured it on defensively as they picked up 12 blocks as a team and dug up 38 balls. Arcari led the team with seven blocks including one solo whole three others had three or more stops in the match. Saint Leo limited Lynn to just a .083 hitting percentage in the match.

Saint Leo will return to action tomorrow afternoon to a very dangerous Barry squad who has just two losses all season and swept the Lions earlier this season in Miami Shores. The Lions and Buccaneers will take to the court at 4 p.m. Admission is free for the match in honor of Saint Leo University's Family Fall Festival. Â
