LAKELAND, Fla. –
Matija Rafaj turned in an NCAA B cut in the 1,000 yard freestyle as the Saint Leo men's swim team took home four first place finishes at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center on the campus of Florida Southern College.
Matija Rafaj came in just under the cut with a 9:33.00 for a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Rafaj also took first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:37.37.
The Lions' 200 medley relay team of
Milosz Mikicin,
Henrik Dahrendorff,
Georgios Veliadis, and
Christian Cioffi took home first in 1:31.83.
Georgios Veliadis stepped out of relays and took first in the 100 yard butterfly, turning in a time of 50.54.
Saint Leo would take second in six events on the day – 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke, 200 yard butterfly, 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard free style, 200 yard individual medley and the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Christian Cioffi would take second in both the 500 and 100 yard freestyles with times of 21.43 and 46.18, respectively.
Veliadis captured a second place in the 200 yard butterfly (1:51.45) where
Milosz Mikicin took second in the 100 yard backstroke (50.03).
Luka Vulic took second place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:42.10) where
Henrik Dahrendorff took second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:02.19).
To close out the night,
Hunter Bains,
Michael Southward,
Christian Cioffi, and
Luka Vulic teamed up to take second in the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:06.19.
Saint Leo returns home to host Rollins at 11 a.m. at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center on Jan. 20.
