BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saint Leo sophomore
Anna Garrett continues to pace the Lions as the Merritt Island, Fla. native moved into sixth all-time in career assists as the No. 23 volleyball defeated Lynn in Sunshine State Conference play, 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10).
Saint Leo (20-5, 14-3 SSC) completed the season sweep over Lynn as the Green and Gold finished the night with a .203 hitting percentage including a .220 third, .231 fourth and a .400 fifth.
Anna Garrett recorded 50 assists and 11 digs, recording her 10th double-double of the season, to move her career assist account to 1,641, moving her into sixth all-time in program history. Garrett trails Ashlee Hodgskin (2014-15), who sits in fifth all-time, by 74 assists with three regular season matches left.
Sederholm notched her ninth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs on the night.
Ashley Quero led the Lions with 13 kills as
Dallas Jasper added 11 to the Lions line. Both Quero and Jasper finished the night on a .273 hitting percentage.
Jenya Kruglova paced the Lions on the defensive side with 21 digs as
Reggie Van Devender chipped in with 12.
Lynn 25-21 | In the opening set, Lynn would all but control the set after earning the first point. Saint Leo would tie the set at 2-2, before the Fighting Knights claimed a 3-2 lead and ended up running away with the first set despite the Lions' late charge.
Saint Leo 25-18 | Saint Leo came soaring back in the second set taking an early 2-1 lead. The Lions would hold a 9-4 lead before a Lynn timeout. Out of the timeout,
Britt Sederholm would land an ace to push the lead to six before Saint Leo pushed it to nine on back-to-back attack errors by Lynn, 13-4. The Lions would maintain the lead all the way up to when
Anna Garrett put it down from
Britt Sederholm to take the second set by seven points.
Lynn 25-20 | The two teams would play a tight third set after the break where both teams were knotted up at 9-9. Lynn would break the tie on a kill from Sonja Udovcic, and never looked back. Saint Leo got as close as two, 20-18, as
Dallas Jasper slammed down a kill. The Fighting Knights would rally from the Lions' kill and take the third set by five.
Saint Leo 25-21 | Despite falling behind early in the fourth set, 0-1 and 1-2, the Lions would rally to take a 6-2 lead as
Victoria Omoregie and
Annabella Arcari would play as a two-person wrecking crew up from. The duo would block an attack to put the Lions up 4-2 before Omoregie tallied a kill from a ball from
Dallas Jasper, 5-2 Saint Leo, and Arcari putting one down from
Anna Garrett to take a 6-2 lead, forcing the Fighting Knights to call time. The Lions would hold the lead and fend off the Knights attempt late, 15-14 and 16-15, before tying the match at 2-2 with a four point fourth set.
Saint Leo 15-10 | Even with the momentum in the Lions' favor on the road, Lynn would fight and keep things close in the decisive set. Saint Leo claimed an early two point lead before the match got tied up three times, 4-4, 5-5, and 6-6, before the Lions could score two straight to take a 8-6 lead at the switch. The Lions would hold the lead and take the set and match as
Britt Sederholm put the ball away for the 15
th and final point.
The Saint Leo volleyball team remains on the road as the Lions travel to Lakeland on Nov. 14 to take on the Moccasins of Florida Southern College at 7 p.m.
