PENSACOLA, Fla. – On Sunday, November 26 the University of West Florida Argonauts overwhelmed the Saint Leo Lions 71-47. The loss lowers the Lions overall record to 1-5, West Florida raised its record to 3-2.
"We have played at least four teams that will compete to win our entire region in a short time and while the losses mount, our heart and conviction is not," says head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "We played toe-to-toe tonight with the regionals best and if we hit two more shots in the first half – we are right in it."
"It was nice to see five freshman play the whole fourth quarter and score the ball. I thought Brandi and Delaney did some things with Ragen being off and Mary, Asia and Gina out.
"While Hooks and Izzy didn't have the numbers they wanted, they led and fought the whole game; they tried.
"In the end though, we must get stops," continued Crocitto. "We must foul less. We must limit the opposition to less than 64 points to be successful. We are not hitting enough open shots and capitalizing when we have numbers in transition. While our point guard play improved tonight, we couldn't hit open shots.
"I'm proud of this group through, as we played hard for the majority of the possessions. We must learn to play forty minutes and play each possession out on both ends," concluded Crocitto.
