Men's Basketball Notes
- For the first time in five years, the Green and Gold men's basketball team opened up Sunshine State Conference play at 2-0 with a 69-68 win over Florida Southern on Nov. 15 and a 82-78 road win over Embry-Riddle on Nov. 18.Â
- Saint Leo enters at 4-3 and on a three-game win streak after the Lions closed out the GSC vs SSC Challenge with an 82-77 win over North Alabama three days prior to their two wins over SSC foes Florida Southern and Embry-Riddle. In the two SSC wins, Junior Searcy paced the Lions with two 20-point games for 40 points on the week. Searcy added 12 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and one assist in 73 minutes of action.Â
- On the year, Isaiah Hill leads the way with 87 points for 12.4 points per game. Hill has hauled in 38 rebounds and averages a team best 5.4 rebounds per game. Hill has picked 15 pockets and dished out 11 assists. Searcy is the team leader in total rebounds with 32 while Tyreece Brice is the leader in assists with 31.Â
- As a team, the Lions are averaging 71.6 points per game on 41.9% (168-401) shooting from the field. The Green and Gold have added 35.2% three-point shooting (56-159) on the year as well as a 61.9% (109-176) free throw percentage. The Lions still trail opponents on the glass averaging 33.1 rebounds per game to opponents 41.3 rpg.
- Flagler enters the week at 2-1 with its most recent win a 78-69 victory over Paine on Nov. 18 in Atlant, Ga. in the LS EPPS Tournament, where the Saints dropped their first game, 77-76 to Clark Atlanta.Â
- In the win over Paine, the Saints saw Vaughn McCall lead the charge with 23 points in 38 minutes. Damerit Brown and Cortlin Davis added 20 and 14 points, respectively.Â
- On the year, the trio of McCall, Brown and Davis lead the charge in scoring with 20.7 ppg, 20.3 ppg, and 15.0 ppg, respectively. Chris Williams is the teams leading rebounder with 21 total for a 7.0 rebounds per game average.Â
