WINTER PARK, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball closed their weekend road trip with a 3-0 sweep of Rollins on Oct. 28. The Lions took the opening set 25-13 inside the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center for Sunshine State Conference action. Saint Leo continued to roll with a 25-11 second set and a 25-14 third set.
With the win, the Lions improve to 16-5, 10-3 in the SSC and complete a 3-0 week pushing their win streak to four straight matches.
Victoria Omoregie paced the Green and Gold with nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
Anna Garrett tallied 26 assists where
Britt Sederholm and
Avery Bradshaw tied for team lead in digs with seven.
Anna Garrett led the Lions in total blocked with three where three other Lions finished with two total.
As a team, Saint Leo hit .329 with 34 total assists and nine service aces. The Lions tallied 38 digs on the afternoon with 10.5 blocks, holding the Tars (8-13, 5-9 SSC) to a .044 hitting percentage.
Saint Leo 25-13 | The momentum followed the Lions into the gym in Winter Park as the Green and Gold climbed out to a quick 3-0 lead with a kill by
Ashley Quero, an ace by Quero and a kill by
Victoria Omoregie. Saint Leo climbed out to a 10-4 lead on kill by
Anna Garrett, before the Tars closed to within two, 12-10. The Green and Gold would outscore Rollins 13-3 to take the opening set, hitting .419 as a team.
Saint Leo 25-11 | Rollins claimed a 3-1 lead early in the second set before the Lions fought to tie it at 4-4. The Tars would run to another two point lead 7-5, where Saint Leo battled to tie it 7-7 on an
Ashley Quero kill. Once the Lions claimed the 8-7 lead, the Green and Gold didn't look back and ran away to win the set, closing the second set by outscoring the Tars 17-4.
Saint Leo 25-14 | After the intermission, Saint Leo came right back to it and moved out to a 6-2 lead on a kill by
Victoria Omoregie. The Lions continued to extend their lead to 13-5 after a 5-0 run, capped by an ace by
Reggie Van Devender, forcing a Tars timeout. Saint Leo pushed their lead to 10, 19-9, before the Tars closed it back to an eight point set, 19-11.
Nina Vattovaz and
Annabella Arcari scored two of the Lions' final six points as Vattovaz's service ace pushed it to 23-13 Saint Leo and Arcari's kill finished the set and match at 25-14.
Saint Leo returns to court at the Marion Bowman Activities Center on Nov. 3 when it hosts Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. before Barry comes to town on Nov. 4.
