HOOVER, Ala. – No. 19 Saint Leo volleyball salvaged one win at the Gulf South Conference vs Sunshine State Conference South Region Crossover inside the Finley Center Saturday after going 1-1 on the final day of the crossover. The Lions took down West Alabama 3-2 to wrap up play after falling 3-2 to Shorter earlier, to finish the crossover at 1-2.
On the day,
Victoria Omoregie led the Lions (12-4) with 33 kills where
Ashley Quero tallied 20, and
Dallas Jasper at 18.
Paloma Da Silva and
Britt Sederholm joined the double-digit kills with 14 and 12, respectively.
Anna Garrett tallied two double-doubles with assists and digs where the sophomore from Merritt Island finished with 70 total assists and 21 total digs.
Jenya Kruglova led the team in digs with 57 total ahead of
Reggie Van Devender, 21, and
Avery Bradshaw, 18. Sederholm and Da Silva joined the double-digit dig club as well for the day with 16 and 12, respectively.
In the 3-2 loss to the Hawks, Saint Leo won the first two sets 25-20, 25-22 before falling in three straight 25-21, 25-21, 15-7.
Anna Garrett tallied a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs where
Maddy Powell chipped in with 26 assists.
Jenya Kruglova led the team in digs with 29 as
Victoria Omoregie paced the team against the Hawks with 17 kills.
Britt Sederholm added 11 kills where
Allie Daul tallied six kills on the night on a .545 clip.
In the 3-2 win over the Tigers, the Lions won the opening set 25-20 before falling in the second 25-22. Saint Leo came back and tamed the Lions in the third set with a 25-14 win to take a 2-1 advantage. West Alabama edged the Lions 25-22 to force a fifth where the Green and Gold toppled the Red and White 15-8 in the decisive set.
Anna Garrett notched her second double-double of the day with 41 assists and 10 digs.
Victoria Omoregie,
Ashley Quero, and
Dallas Jasper each recorded double-digit kills in the match with 16, 13, and 11, respectively. Omoregie finished on a .351 clip where Jasper hit a .421.
Jenya Kruglova paced the Green and Gold with 28 digs where
Reggie Van Devender and
Avery Bradshaw added 10-plus digs. Van Devender tallied 12 and Bradshaw 11 in the second match of the day.
Saint Leo returns to SSC action on Friday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
Following the tournament,
Victoria Omoregie was named to the 2017 GSC/SSC Crossover All-Tournament team. Omoregie tallied 35 kills on the weekend for a .263 hitting percentage.
