SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 19 Saint Leo volleyball fell to Florida Southern 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 12-15) in a Sunshine State Conference matchup inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center Tuesday. A pair of double-doubles from
Britt Sederholm and
Anna Garrett led the Lions in the five-set match.
Britt Sederholm led the Lions with her second straight double-double with 12 kills and 21 digs.
Dallas Jasper was the team leader in kills with 13 on .300 clip.
Victoria Omoregie added 10 kills for the Green and Gold on the night.
Anna Garrett notched 38 assists on the night with 12 digs.
Reggie Van Devender and
Jenya Kruglova shared libero duties where Van Devender was a ball hawk tallying 27 digs with Kruglova on her heels at 26.
As a team, the Lions finished the night with a .119 hitting percentage with 55 kills on 201 attempts. The Green and Gold tallied 106 digs with seven total blocks. Their highest set by hitting percentage was a .186 in the fourth set where the Lions won 25-17.
Saint Leo moves to 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, where the loss snaps a five-game win streak.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 25-18 | The Moccasins opened the first set with a commanding 5-1 lead. Saint Leo would close the gap to two, 9-7, before Florida Southern moved to 10-7. A kill from
Dallas Jasper made it 10-8 as
Anna Garrett would serve the Lions to a 10-10 tie. The Mocs would erase the Lions run with a 5-0 run of their own forcing a timeout by Saint Leo. Scoring two of three points out of the timeout with two kills from
Victoria Omoregie, the Lions closed to within four, 16-12. Florida Southern would go on a 3-0 run, 19-12, forcing a second Saint Leo timeout. The two teams would go even, 6-6, over the final points of the set as Florida Southern's lead held up and took the first by seven.

Anna Garrett started the second set off on the right foot with an ace. Two straight Florida Southern points would put the Mocs in the lead 2-1. Florida Southern grabbed an early lead, 6-4, before a
Britt Sederholm kill put the Lions behind by one, 6-5. Sederholm went on to serve four points, with an ace, two
Annabella Arcari kills and an
Ashley Quero kill before the Mocs called a timeout, Lions leading 9-6. The Lions would hold onto their lead until the Mocs' momentum saw them tie it 17-17 and again 18-18. Florida Southern took a quick two-point run, 20-18, before a timeout from Saint Leo. An error and Jasper kill brought the Lions to within one, 21-20, forcing a Moc timeout. Out of the timeout, with Garrett serving, Quero and Omoregie would slam down two balls to push the Lions ahead, 22-21. The Lions would finish the set on a 3-2 advantage to take the second set by two.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 25-19 | The third set looked as if the Lions were going to run away with it, leading 8-4 and 12-6. Florida Southern would pick up three straight points, 12-9, before tying things up at 13-13 with four straight points. Saint Leo would take two quick leads where the two teams went back and forth for the next six points before the Mocs claimed a 17-16 lead and never looked back. Florida Southern would close the game on an 8-3 run to take a 2-1 lead over the Lions.
SAINT LEO 25-17 | After a tied 3-3 set, the Lions would pounce on the Mocs and move out to a 7-4 lead. Florida Southern closed to within one, 7-6, before Saint Leo extended its lead to 11-7, with a Florida Southern timeout to follow. Saint Leo scored three straight after the timeout with an attack error and a ball handling error as well as a
Dallas Jasper kill. The Mocs took their second timeout trailing 14-7. Closing out the set, the two teams went point for point where the Lions scored 11 points to the Mocs 10, taking the set 25-17.

Anna Garrett set was the Lions' 25 point to force a fifth set.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 15-12 | A
Maddy Powell ace capped a quick start to the fifth set for Saint Leo forcing a Mocs' timeout, with the Green and Gold ahead 5-2. A bad set and a Saint Leo timeout would bring Florida Southern to within two, 7-5, before
Paloma Da Silva crushed a ball out of the timeout from Powell to put the Lions up 8-5, allowing the switch to occur.
Reggie Van Devender kept it going quick with an ace forcing a Florida Southern timeout. The Mocs would gain momentum outscoring the Lions 4-1 to tie the final set, 10-10. Head Coach
Sam Cibrone would call a timeout seconds after the Mocs claimed an 11-10 lead. Following the timeout, Jasper ripped one down the line to tie things back up at 11-11. An attack error by the Mocs pushed the Lions ahead once again, 12-11. Back-to-back kills by Florida Southern would push the Mocs ahead 13-12. Two attack errors would seal the match in favor of the visiting Moccasins, 15-12.
Saint Leo will head to Hoover, Ala. to take on North Alabama, Shorter, and West Alabama in the Gulf South/Sunshine State Conference Crossover Oct. 13-14. The Lions open up the GSC/SSC Crossover on Friday at 5:45 p.m. Saint Leo will open Saturday play at 3:30 p.m. against Shorter before closing out the trip with an 8 p.m. matchup with West Alabama.
