TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 20 Saint Leo men's lacrosse fell on the road to the No. 6 University of Tampa on Friday evening, 12-7, in Sunshine State Conference action.
Saint Leo saw Jake Gilmour come alive on Friday, as the sophomore scored a goal and tallied a game-high three assists, after being quiet in the Lions last few outings. Chad Marino led the Lions with two goals, adding on an assist as well. With his lone goal, Dylan Yonts moved into sole possession of second place in career goals with 116.
The Spartans honored their seniors on Friday evening, and those honored did not disappoint. Three of their seniors tallied nine of Tampa's 12 goals, led by Jake Schmidt who recorded four goals and one assist, Mike Morris added three and an assist, while Matt Bilak tallied two and two.

How It Happened
1Q | Carter Dickson opened up the scoring with a rip of the pass from Marino. The Lions followed it up with a defensive possession to set a tone for the period. Gilmour followed it up with one where he backed down the defender, and wrapped around to rip the shot. The Spartans stole one as Jake Schmidt tallied one, and then Andrew Kew, Tampa's leading scorer, netted the equalizer. Dave Moore made a spectacular save to close out the quarter. | 2-2 |
2Q | Tampa opened the period on a 4-0 run, until Yonts netted his only of the game to break the run. He bodied down the defender, and spun around to take the shot. The Lions followed it up with Gilmour dishing the rock to Marino, who ripped it down the center, 6-4. Tampa took netted a seventh goal on man-up opportunity. | UT 7-4 |
3Q | The Spartans were tabbed with an early slash penalty, and on the ensuing possession, Joe Donnian sniped the man-up goal on a pass from Justin Robinson, bringing the game within two, Lions down 7-5. Tampa saw Schmidt net his second on a man-up opportunity, and then the Spartans snagged their ninth on Schmidt's assist. | UT 9-5 |
4Q | Schmidt hit the back of the net on back-to-back goals, before Marino snagged one for the Lions. A defensive hit by Tyler Vadas caused a Spartan turnover that directly resulted in a Josh Kaufling goal. Tampa hit another goal with 24.0 seconds on the clock. | UT 12-9 |
