SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Men's tennis team made a huge jump in this week's ITA South Regional rankings, taking the leap from fourth in last week's poll, to aking the No. 1 spot in the South Regional.
The Lions are currently 10-0 with wins over West Florida, who fell in at the No. 2 spot, and No. 5 Valdosta State.
Freshman Alberto Barroso-Campos maintained the No. 1 singles spot, while Egor Panyushkin jumped to No. 7. Alex Theiler rounded out the Lions in the Top-10 singles ranking. Jaime Bueno wrapped up the ranked singles players, falling in at No. 20.
After defeating Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil of West Florida, the previous No. 1 doubles pair in the region, Barroso-Campos and Theiler jumped to No. 1 in doubles ranking in the South Region, bumping Peyrot and Brasil to No. 2. Francisco Aparicio and Fons Verberne fell in at No. 9 in the doubles ranking.
The Lions hit the road for a three-match stretch in Denver, Colo., facing nationally ranked No. 2 Hawaii Pacific, and No. 12 Midwestern State.
