The Basics
Final Score: Saint Leo defeated Eckerd College 3-1, (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23).
Location: McArthur Center, St. Petersburg, Fla.

How It Happened

  • Sophomore pin hitter Britt Sederholm pounded out 19 kills, matching her season high, on 33 swings with only three errors to pace the Lions to a .324 team hitting percentage. She turned a double-double on the day, turning up 10 digs for the Lions. Sederholm was one of three Lions to crack double-digits in kills; she was joined by senior middle Jillian Stolzenburg with 12 kills on 28 attacks, and senior middle Katie Adamson with 11 kills. Stolzenburg also tallied an ace and three total blocks, to finish the night with a team-best 14.5 points.
  • Senior Ashlee Hodgskin dished out a season-high 52 assists, and added eight digs.
  • Jamee Townsend sprawled for 18 digs, with senior Anna Siruckova adding 15 digs to go with her four total blocks and nine kills.
  • Set 1 | Saint Leo broke a 14-14 tie by rattling off seven straight points to grab a commanding 21-14 lead. Sederholm pounded out three kills during the run, while Stolzenburg added a pair and the tandem of Stolzenburg and Hodgskin recorded a block.
  • Set 2 | A four-point run by Eckerd early in the set gave the Tritons a little separation from the Lions, and led to Eckerd taking a seven-point lead at 13-6 on a Gabrielle Reis kill. Saint Leo eventually got the margin down to one point in the late stages of the set, thanks to a four-point run highlighted by a Hope Lemon ace. An Adamson kill cut the Eckerd lead to 23-22, but a side out kill by Lauryn Nelson got the Tritons to set point and they finished the set on a Tjasa Kotnick kill.
  • Set 3 | Saint Leo outscored Eckerd 8-2 during the middle part of the set, leading to a 19-12 Lion advantage. The Tritons rallied with three straight points to cut the margin to 19-15, but the Lions picked up the next two points on a Lemon kill and a Triton attack error. After trading side out points to advance the score to 22-16, the Lions put away the set on three straight kills – one by Sederholm, and back-to-back terminations by Siruckova.
  • Set 4 | The final set was neck-and-neck the entire way, with neither team able to take more than a three-point lead without being immediately reeled back in. The set was tied up for the 13th time at 23-23, with Saint Leo getting to match point on a Kotnik attack error. Sederholm closed out the match with a kill off a Hodgskin set.

Beyond the Box score

  • Saint Leo served five aces, and has recorded 5-or-more aces in eight of its nine matches.
  • Sederholm's 19 kills marked her second double-digit kill performance of the season; ironically, her only other double-digit kill tally was also 19, on September 11 vs. #24 West Texas A&M. Her 10 digs was her fourth double-figure dig total of 2015.
  • Adamson broke double figures in kills for the first time this season with 11 versus the Tritons. She also logged five total blocks and finished the night with 13.5 points – both season highs.
  • Stolzenburg's 12 terminations was her second kill total in double digits this season.

For the Tritons

  • The loss was the third straight for the Tritons, who haven't won since their 3-0 win over West Liberty on September 12. Eckerd had opened the season with five wins over its first six matches.
  • Kotnik paced the Tritons with a match-high 21 kills on 44 swings with a .386 attack percentage. Lauryn Nelson was the only other Eckerd player to break double-digits in kills with 11.
  • Eckerd hit .226 for the match

Up next

  • Saint Leo remains on the road for its next two matches, starting with a match at Barry on Friday, Sept. 25. The two match road swing will also see the Lions step out of SSC play with a matchup at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, Sept. 26.
  • Eckerd will have the reverse schedule as Saint Leo next weekend, facing Palm Beach Atlantic on September 25, followed by a match at Barry on September 26.
  • The Lions won't return to Marion Bowman until October 2. After three matches on the road, Saint Leo will host Florida Tech.
