Saint Leo falls 3-2 at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It was the third-straight five-set match for the Saint Leo women's volleyball team, this time host Nova Southeastern found the magic on senior night, taking the match, 3-2.

How It Happened
Set 1|
 Saint Leo opened with an offensive output in the first set, hitting a clip of .355. The Lions took the early lead, but the Sharks caught back up, holding the lead midway through the set. The Lions stole the set in the final points, taking the set. | SLU 25-21 |

Set 2| It started out back-to-back until Saint Leo took a four-point lead early in the set by three kills and forced Nova to take a timeout. The Sharks came back to tie the set multiple times until the Lions took a two-point lead and in response Nova called another timeout. The timeout seem to be worthy as the Sharks tied the set. Nova sealed the set on a three-point streak, taking the set. | NSU 25-22 |

Set 3| Saint Leo jumped out to a large lead in the third set, hopping out to an 11-5 lead. Saint Leo maintained their lead behind forced errors by the Sharks and a few long service runs.| SLU 25-19 |

Set 4| Saint Leo started the fourth set the same way as the third, opening up to a 7-4 lead, but three-straight Shark points, brought the match to 8-7. From then on the whole set, went back and forth. Saint Leo held a 22-21 lead, but the Sharks finished the set with four-straight points, three of which came on Lions errors. | NSU 25-22 |

Set 5| NSU picked up where they finished in the fourth, jumping out to a controlling lead after a 3-3 tie. The Sharks went on a 12-5 run to close the set and the match. | NSU 15-8 |

Beyond the Box

For the Sharks

  • The Sharks put away 60 kills to the Lions 58, while also adding 11 service aces. 
  • Dana Holger put down a game-high 19 kills, adding 17 digs. Teammate Denvyer Tyler-Palmer added 18 kills. 
  • Megan Burns scooped up a game-high 36 digs.
