Saint Leo Director of Volleyball Natalia Koryzna announced the addition of assistant coach Michaela Karrick to her Saint Leo volleyball coaching staff in July of 2021. Karrick, who most recently served as a head coach at Volleyball Pro Academy, is a 2021 graduate of the University of West Florida.
Â
Karrick began her collegiate career as a student-athlete at Columbia College of Missouri where she spent two seasons as part of the Cougars volleyball program. During her sophomore season the Cougars went an impressive 42-5 in route to an NAIA Championship match appearance in which they fell in a five-set thriller to Park University. As a freshman, the team went 34-8 and earned a win at the National Championships before falling to Grand View.
Â
Following her time at Columbia College, Karrick enrolled at the University of West Florida where she focused on obtaining a degree in business administration while minoring in management. She also began coaching at Volleyball Pro Academy where she assisted in the recruitment and training of six assistant coaches and over 20 student-athletes. She prepared practice and game schedules for her team while also training the athletes to compete on the next level.
Â
She has also been involved in several philanthropic organizations including serving as an executive board member for the Relay for Life at the University of West Florida this past year. She worked with local and national businesses to set-up sponsorship opportunities while also working with the rest of the board to come up with the schedule of events for the relay itself. While at Columbia she worked with the Special Olympics as a group leader for two years.
Â
Karrick, who was an Academic All-Conference selection at Columbia College, graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of West Florida in May of 2021 while also minoring in management.
