Vervelde was promoted to the Assistant Athletic Director of Internal Operations at Saint Leo University in July 2023. In his current role, he plays a crucial role in overseeing athletic communications, facilities management, and game operations for 17 varsity sports. Since July 2023, he has managed a team of graduate assistants and student workers, ensuring smooth execution of athletic events and enhancing the department's operations.
Vervelde returned to Saint Leo for the second time in his career in September of 2021 and served as the Director of Athletic Operations and Events at Saint Leo University before his promotion to his current role in July of 2023. In this role, he was instrumental in implementing the ARMS Software workflow to improve efficiency and worked closely with external vendors to maintain top-notch facilities. He also managed major events such as the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament and the NCAA Division II Baseball Regional tournament.
Prior to returning to Saint Leo, he served as the Business Manager in the athletic department at Yale University (August 2019 - September 2021). He handled financial analysis and reporting for 34 athletic programs, coordinated travel logistics, and enhanced internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
His Saint Leo career began in 2016 as he served as a Graduate Assistant for Business Services for two years before moving over to an Assistant Coach of the Men's Basketball team. As a Graduate Assistant for Business Services (August 2016-2018), he managed budgets and travel for 21 programs. While serving as an Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball his main focus was player development and recruitment.
He got his start in sports management handling the event logistics and customer service for various sports as a Game Management Intern for the athletic department at Stevens Point from January 2013-December 2015.
Vervelde holds a Master of Business Administration in Sport Business from Saint Leo University (2020) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Management from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point (2015). He began his academic career at Marian University.
Vervelde was as a four-year starting kicker for the UW – Stevens Point football team, where he earned First Team All-Conference honors and the title of Special Teams Player of the Year, demonstrating leadership and resilience that have been key to his career success.
Vervelde, his wife Ally an their two daughters, Charlie and Emilia resides in Wesley Chapel.
