Saint Leo University Athletics

Eli Taliafero was hired as the first head coach of the newly added program to Saint Leo Athletics as the head coach of the women's flag football team in March of 2025 and is a highly accomplished coach with a proven track record of developing athletes and building successful programs. Taliafero brings a wealth of experience, a passion for player development, and a commitment to excellence that will propel the Lions to long term success. 

His coaching journey includes most recently serving as the head coach of the University of South Florida women’s flag football club team. Under his leadership, the team achieved competitive success while fostering a culture of discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. His ability to develop athletes both on and off the field has been a hallmark of his coaching philosophy. 

As a Talent ID Coach for Team USA, he evaluated and developed elite athletes for future international competition. Additionally, his role as Athletic Director for NFL Flag of Tampa Bay allowed him to oversee a youth flag football league serving hundreds of athletes. His expertise in identifying and nurturing talent has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of flag football stars.

Taliafero's impact extends to his work as program director and head coach for the Tampa Bay Sea Dogs Club Team, where he established a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young athletes. Many of the Sea Dogs’ players transitioned to high school as top players on their teams, with most earning varsity spots as freshmen. This success underscores his ability to develop athletes who are ready to compete at the highest levels. 

The experience as a Flag Football Development Coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers further solidified his reputation as a leader in the sport. In this role, he spearheaded youth clinics across Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, impacting thousands of athletes and enhancing community engagement. His work with the Buccaneers not only grew participation in flag football but also provided young athletes with the tools to succeed both on and off the field.

With a career defined by leadership, innovation, and a commitment to community, Taliafero is dedicated to building a program that not only contends for titles but also sets the standard for what it means to be a Saint Leo Lion. His vision, experience, and passion for the game make him the ideal leader to begin this new chapter of Saint Leo athletics to guide the Lions into a new era of success.
