Loreto Alonso was named assistant coach in August 2015.
Alonso brings a wealth of experience to the Lions. Since May 2013, Alonso has worked for Net Results-All American Tennis through two different tennis clubs. Over the 2015 and 2016 summer months, she spent her time at New Canaan Field Club in New Canaan, Conn., serving as the men's coordinator in 2015 and the junior's coordinator in 2016. She was responsible for designing tennis classes and private lessons, organizing events and tournaments, and explaining fundamentals of tennis and ensuring proper form. Alonso also worked for Tampa Tennis at Hillsborough Community College under Net Results-All American Tennis as well.
The native of Oviedo, Spain also brings in experience as a collegiate coach as she was an assistant coach for the women's team at her alma mater, the University of South Florida, during the 2015 season. She helped develop and implement specific training programs and skill development. She helped recruit as well as make schedules and deal with team finances.
On the court, Alonso proved impressive as well. While at USF, she guided her team to the 2014 American Athletic Conference title. In the season she was named the AAC Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Performer of the AAC tournament. Over her career, she earned five Player of the Week honors and was named a team captain from 2012-14.
Alonso is also certified as a USPTA Professional Tennis Coach. She graduated Cum Laude from USF in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education, specializing in exercise science.
