SAINT LEO, Fla. — The Saint Leo women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Florida Tech on Saturday at home, with the Lions continuing to battle throughout the full 90 minutes.
Florida Tech took the lead in the 21st minute, but Saint Leo's defense and goalkeeper freshman Addison Pitts kept the Lions within striking distance. Pitts finished with five saves, including several key stops in the second half as Saint Leo kept Florida Tech off the scoreboard after halftime. Junior Sara Hansen made several key defense plays to hold off the persistent offense of the panthers. The Lions created increased pressure after the break, with Annika Schuller recording four shots and one shot on goal, while Ella Van Doren added a shot late in the match.
Saint Leo finished with four shots in the second half and earned a corner kick in the final five minutes, continuing to push for an equalizer until the final whistle but ultimately fell 1-0 to the reigning NCAA DII National Champions.
The women's soccer team is back in action this Wed. Sept. 23 at home at 6pm vs Webber International.
