#11 Men’s Golf Stands in Second Place After First Day of Griffin Invitational

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Following the first day of the 2026 Griffin Invitational, the 11th ranked Saint Leo men's golf team stands in second place with a team score of 565 (-11) after the first two rounds on Monday at Mission Inn & Resort.

Leading the Lions is sophomore Benjamin Morland, who shot a staggering 135 (-9) on Monday. His first round featured seven birdies on the back-nine while an eagle highlighted his second round on hole one. Morland currently sits tied for second place.

Additionally, freshmen Brett Shaw and Jack Mast are in the top-10 as well. Shaw is in sixth-place with a 142 (-2) as his day consisted of seven total birdies while Mast is tied for seventh with a 143 (-1). Mast finished the day with eight birdies, three of which were on the back-nine of round two.

 Senior Nicklas Illi is tied for 20th with a 146 (+2). Freshman Paul Liang is in a share of 32nd after posting a 149 (+5) followed by freshman Gavin Carver in 63rd with a 160 (+16).

Saint Leo have a few golfers competing as individuals. Junior Micke Laurelli is in 12th after carding a 144 (even) on Monday. Sophomore Oliver Hienonen registered a 71 in the first round before firing a 76 in the second for a 147 (+3). Freshman Turner Hersey recorded a 78 and then a 74 in his first collegiate rounds. Freshman Hunter Kinnear also competed in his first collegiate tournament and posted a 158 (+14)  and is in 58th place.

The Lions will conclude the 2026 Griffin Invitational tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 as they compete in the final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
