TAMPA, Fla. — Saint Leo university shined in their final regular season meet, seeing multiple personal bests as they gear up for the Sunshine State conference championship in two weeks.
Men
Freshman Jordan So led a strong showing for Saint Leo in the sprints, clocking a 10.68 in the 100 meters and a 21.77 in the 200 at a meet in Tampa, Florida. Teammate Fred Filsaime followed closely in both events, posting times of 10.71 and 21.94, while Alexei Leon George added marks of 10.86 and 22.09 to round out a deep freshman sprint group.
In the 400 meters, Amir-Styles Benjamin led the Lions with a 49.60, with James Jones IV finishing in 51.17. Saint Leo also showed depth in the middle- istance events, as Adon Elienist paced the 800-meter group in 1:56.25, followed by Benjamin Henry (1:58.64) and Jason Bracero Jr (2:01.91). In the 1500 meters, Paul Rivera posted a team-best 4:03.19.
Over the hurdles, Joshua Warren recorded a 15.21 in the 110 meter prelims and returned to run 57.83 in the 400 hurdles. The Lions' 4x100 relay team of Keyon Wilson, Filsaime, Leon George and So finished fifth overall with a time of 40.84.
In field events, Keyon Wilson cleared 1.95 meters to place fifth in the high jump. In the long jump, Jalen Falcon led the way with a 6.59-meter effort, while Joshua Fuller recorded a 6.29-meter mark.
Women
TAMPA, Fla. — Freshman Mia Lewis led Saint Leo in the 100 meters with a time of 12.59, while Giuliana Adonteng followed at 12.64. Rayona Ocasio did not finish in the event but returned to post a 26.97 in the 200 meters, where Kansas Henry paced the Lions with a 25.80. Lewis added a 26.83 in the 200 to round out the sprint group.
Henry also led the team in the 400 meters, clocking a 58.22 to highlight a strong individual meet. In the middle distance events, Dackjerlin (DJ) Senior turned season best and lowered her school record down to 2:13.39 in the 800 meters, while Jasmine Fajardo followed in 2:31.94. Delaney Glynn represented the Lions in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:16.63.
Over the hurdles, Hawley Johnson posted a 16.09 in the 100-meter preliminaries. Saint Leo's 4x100 relay team of Lewis, Adonteng, Virginia Smith and Ocasio finished 12th in 49.69, while the 4x400 relay of Smith, Senior, Hailey Newton and Henry also placed 12th with a time of 4:01.94.
This concludes the regular season for the track and field teams, and now look to the SSC championships on April. 24-25.
