#19 Men's Golf Sits in 10th, Illi in 3rd After Day One of Matlock Invitational

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's golf team sits tied for 10th place following the opening day of competition at the Matlock Invitational, hosted at Lone Palm Golf Club. The Lions posted a two-round team score of 591 after rounds of 301 and 290 on Monday.

Junior Benjamin Morland led the lineup for Saint Leo through the first day, tying for 10th at two-under-par 142. Morland opened the tournament with a 70 before carding an even-par 72 in the afternoon to pace the Lions' lineup.

Also contributing for Saint Leo was sophomore Micke Laurelli, who finished the day tied for 23rd at two-over-par 146. Laurelli rebounded from a first-round 76 with a strong second-round 70. Senior Enzo Barbaglia provided a spark in round two as well, firing a three-under 69 to move into a tie for 41st at five-over-par 149.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lions were junior Maximilian Morgenstern (T69, +11, 155) and senior Ryan Letterly (T78, +16, 160). Competing for the Lions as an individual is junior Nicklas Illi and shot as an impressive 137, seven-under as he is in third place.

Saint Leo will conclude the Matlock Invitational tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10 with a shotgun start of 8:30 a.m.
