Women's Soccer Wins On The Road With Shutout Over Barry

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Saint Leo women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over Barry securing its second Sunshine State Conference win of the season behind a second half goal from sophomore Chloe Froese and a strong defensive performance.

After a scoreless first half, Froese broke through at 60:28, scoring her fourth goal of the season on a header off an assist from sophomore Ilaria Miclet to give the Lions the lead. Saint Leo generated six shots in the opening half and continued to pressure the Buccaneers after the break. Froese tested Barry goalkeeper Marlen Hernandez in the 59th minute before finding the back of the net less than two minutes later. Graduate Student Payton Todd also put a second-half shot on target as the Lions continued to threaten offensively.

Defensively, Saint Leo held Barry scoreless despite the Buccaneers recording seven shots and seven corner kicks. Goalkeeper Addison Pitts played all 90 minutes and finished with six saves to preserve the shutout and earn the victory, recording her first shutout of conference play, and second of the season. The Lions matched Barry with six shots on goal and finished with a 10-7 advantage in total shots. Saint Leo also committed fewer fouls than the Buccaneers, 10-11, while limiting Barry to two shots in the second half.

With the win, Saint Leo improved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Sunshine State Conference play where they currently rank 6th.

The women's soccer team will have a week off before returning next Saturday at home against Lynn at 7PM.
