Women’s Soccer Falls 1-0 at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. - Saint Leo University women's soccer made the trip down I-98 to Florida Southern College for its first road Sunshine State Conference game of the year. Freshman goalkeeper Soley Larusdottir made seven saves while conceding the lone goal in the contest. Saint Leo falls to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in SSC action.

Saint Leo finished the match with five total shots, one on target, in a narrow 1-0 loss at Florida Southern. Goalkeeper Soley Larusdottir anchored the back line with eight saves across 90 minutes, while Katja May tallied the Lions' lone shot on goal. Florida Southern posted 20 total shots with eight on target and converted once early in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Florida Southern 1, Saint Leo 0

The Lions fell behind in the third minute when Florida Southern's Allie Draper scored off a free kick from Rilee Hasegawa. Saint Leo responded with defensive organization and timely saves from Larusdottir to limit further damage.

Chances were hard to come by in the first half for Saint Leo, though Julia Gonsman and May each had attempts before the break. In the second half, the Lions began to generate more pressure, earning a corner and shots from Ane Buer and Ainsley Meyer, but Florida Southern's defense stood firm.

Despite playing a man up for the final eight minutes after a Moccasin red card, Saint Leo was unable to find the equalizer, closing out the match with a 1-0 defeat in conference play.
