ALBANY, Ga. – The No. 23 ranked Saint Leo men's golf team earned a top-10 finish at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southwestern at Doublegate Country Club, tying for seventh place. The Lions posted rounds of 296, 299, and 289 for a 54-hole total of 884 (+20).
Freshman
Benjamin Morland led the way for Saint Leo with an impressive sixth-place individual finish at 214 (-2). After steady opening rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E), Morland closed strong with a three-under 69 in the final round, climbing into the top 10.
Both sophomore
Micke Laurelli and junior
Nicklas Illi tied for 30th overall with identical totals of 222 (+6). Laurelli carded rounds of 75-73-74, while Illi opened with an even-par 72 and matched that mark in the final round.
Rounding out the Lions' scoring, senior
Enzo Barbaglia tied for 52nd at 228 (+12) after improving each round (77-76-75), and senior
Ryan Letterly tied for 58th with a 230 (+14) total, highlighted by a two-over 74 in the closing round.
Sunshine State Conference (SSC) opposition, Florida Southern, won the team crown with a score of 858 (-6), while Mohit Balaji from Tampa placed first on the individual leaderboard.
The Lions return to action on Monday, October 13 as they compete in the opening day of the Copperhead Championship, hosted by West Florida at the Innisbrook Resort starting at 8:30 a.m.
