"The Saint Leo University Hall of Fame is about celebrating the legacy of those who have left an indelible mark on our athletics program, and this year's class truly embodies that standard," said Marcal Lazenby, Saint Leo Vice President - Athletics & Wellness stated. We are proud to honor four outstanding individuals who represent the very best of our values, and to make history with the first-ever team induction. The 2016 NCAA Champion Men's Golf team not only brought home the first national title in school history but also set a benchmark of excellence that continues to inspire our student-athletes today. This Hall of Fame class reflects both the tradition and the future of what it means to be a Saint Leo Lion."
The 2016 NCAA National Champion Men's Golf team forever changed the trajectory of Saint Leo Athletics by capturing the first NCAA team championship in program and university history. Competing at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Denver, Colorado, the Lions delivered a milestone performance that brought Saint Leo its first national title.
Led by head coach Chris Greenwood, the Lions advanced through stroke play and thrived in match play, defeating some of the nation's best programs. In the defining moment, Griffin Clark holed the championship-winning putt to give Saint Leo its first NCAA national title — a lasting triumph that ensures his name and spirit will forever be part of Lions history.
This induction recognizes their achievement that elevated the university to national prominence and inspired future generations of Lions student-athletes.
The legacy of this team, and of Griffin Clark's unforgettable championship moment, will forever be remembered as a turning point in Saint Leo Athletics — trailblazers, history-makers, and champions.
The 2016 men's golf team joins the 2005 men's soccer team as the only teams inducted into the Saint Leo athletics hall of fame.
Marcus Dewberry '17 (men's basketball) made his mark as one of the most dynamic players in Saint Leo men's basketball history. A member of the 1,000-point club, he graduated ranked 7th all-time in scoring (1,524 points), while also finishing 4th in assists (406), 4th in three-pointers made (193), 8th in steals (133), and 9th in free throws made (277).
Dewberry's impact was felt across the Sunshine State Conference. He was a two-time First Team All-SSC selection (2016, 2017), earned All-Region honors both years, and was recognized nationally as the D2 National Player of the Week in February 2016. During his career, he collected six SSC Player of the Week awards and put together one of the greatest single seasons in program history in 2015–16, scoring 611 points (third-most in a single season) and setting the Saint Leo record with 88 three-pointers made.
His play helped lead the Lions to two NCAA Tournament appearances, establishing him as one of the program's most reliable leaders.
After graduation, Dewberry played professionally in Iceland, finishing as the league's second-leading scorer at 34 points per game. Today, he continues to shape the game as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Webber International University.
Jake Gilmour '18, '20 (men's lacrosse) is one of the most accomplished players in Saint Leo men's lacrosse history. The program's all-time leader in career points (242) and assists, Gilmore was a dynamic playmaker who helped elevate the Lions onto the national stage.
After earning SSC All-Freshman honors in 2015, Gilmore quickly became one of the conference's elite. He collected All-SSC First Team recognition in 2016, served as team captain as a junior in 2017 while earning Second Team honors, and capped his career with a remarkable 2018 season. That year, Gilmore led Saint Leo to the NCAA Division II National Championship game as team captain, while personally earning SSC Player of the Year, First Team All-SSC, USILA First Team All-American, and USILA Scholar All-American honors.
Gilmore's consistency and leadership defined his four years in Green and Gold. His records for points and assists, along with his role in leading the program to its greatest team achievement, cement his place in Saint Leo history.
Since graduating, Gilmore has remained active in lacrosse, returning home to Canada where he coaches at the club level, ensuring his passion for the game continues to impact the next generation.
Jonathan Glenn '11 (men's soccer) made an immediate impact on the Saint Leo men's soccer program, scoring 14 goals in 13 matches as a freshman in 2007 to rank fourth nationally in goals per game. He was named Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year and went on to earn All-SSC honors in all four of his playing seasons, along with multiple All-Region selections and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2010. Over his career, Glenn tallied 41 goals in 57 matches, the fifth-most in program history, and recorded a hat trick against Georgia Southwestern in 2009.
After Saint Leo, Glenn enjoyed a decade-long professional and international career. He represented the Trinidad and Tobago senior national team, highlighted by a goal and assist in a 3-3 draw against Mexico in 2015, and appeared in the 2014 Caribbean Cup, 2015 Gold Cup, 2016 Copa America qualifiers, and 2018 World Cup qualifiers. His club career spanned the U.S. and Iceland, where he twice earned Golden Boot honors and helped Breidablik to a league runner-up finish.
Following retirement, Glenn transitioned to coaching, earning UEFA B and A licenses and leading ÍBV's women's team in Iceland, where he was recognized as one of the league's top coaches.
Cisco Johnson, 1985-87 (baseball) left an indelible mark on Saint Leo baseball, starring as one of the fastest players in NCAA Division II history. A two-time All-Sunshine State Conference honoree, Johnson's senior year in 1987 became legendary. That season, he stole 96 bases, leading all of Division II and setting a Saint Leo single-season record that still stands. With a 93.2% success rate, his average of 1.96 steals per game ranks fourth all-time in the NCAA record book.
Over his career, Johnson recorded 167 stolen bases, placing him second in school history and fourth nationally. He also finished second all-time in runs scored (180), third in walks (143), and tied for fourth in triples (11). His remarkable season earned him the title of 1987 NCAA Division II Statistical Champion for both stolen bases per game and total steals, before being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Beyond baseball, Johnson served over 27 years in the U.S. military, earning the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and multiple commendations. His leadership was recognized with honors such as Drill Sergeant of the Year (2003) and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Award.
Johnson's career reflects excellence, service, and the Saint Leo spirit.
