SAINT LEO, Fla. – #27 Saint Leo University women's tennis team fought till the end in a highly competitive match at the Saint Leo Tennis Center on Wednesday night. Down to the final set with the match tied at 3-3, Kamilya Shailina won the tiebreaker in the final set to clinch the upset victory over #5 Embry-Riddle, 4-3. The Lions improved to 12-3 overall and 3-2 in SSC action while the Eagles drop to 11-3 and 3-1 in SSC play.  

The home team jumped out to the early 1-0 lead clinching the doubles point. Embry-Riddle opened doubles play with a 6-1 win at number three doubles. The Lions followed that with a 6-2 win at number one doubles by Luzia Obermeier and Kamilya Shailina as the duo defeated the #21-ranked doubles pair. Claudia Borbon Roca and Camila Keller defeated their opponents 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the home team.

Embry-Riddle opened singles play with three straight wins at number five, six and three singles to take a 3-1 advantage. Saint Leo turned up the jets on the final three courts to clinch the SSC victory. #30 Claudia Borbon Roca needed a tiebreaker in the opening set to defeat her opponent who is ranked #69. Camila Keller cruised to a 6-0 first set win at number four singles before winning the tiebreaker in the second set to tie the match at 3-3. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker at number two singles, #61 Kamilya Shailina won the second set 6-3 and then clinched the match in the final set 7-5 to complete the comeback victory over the fifth-ranked Eagles.
