SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Saint Leo acrobatics and tumbling team collected a 258.245 – 241.340 victory against Montevallo in this season-opener in the Marion-Bowman on Saturday afternoon.

During the first event, the compulsory event, the Lions swept the Falcons in every heat as they registered a 9.3 in the acro heat, a 9.5 in the pyramid category followed by a 9.750 in the toss and a 7.95 in the tumbling heat. After the compulsory event, the Green and Gold led by a 36.5 – 32.45 margin.

In the acro event, Saint Leo once again won every heat with a 9.2 in the first before registering a 8.9 in the second heat and a 9.650. Montevallo recorded a 23.6 in the acro event while the Lions posted a 27.75 as Saint Leo extended its overall lead to 64.25 – 56.05.

The Green and Gold scored 9.45 or better in every heat of the pyramid event with scores of 9.45, 9.55, and 9.850. After the pyramid event, the Lions' total score was 93.1 while the Falcons had 82.75.

In the first heat of the toss category, the Lions earned a score of 8.85 while Montevallo scored an 8.4. In the second heat, Saint Leo recorded an 8.75 while the Green and Gold capped off the event with a 9.25 in the third heat. Heading into the tumbling event, Saint Leo led 119.95 – 107.35.

During the tumbling event, the Lions won five of the six heats with scores of 9.25, 8.15, 7.55, 9.025, and 9.625. The Falcons won the fourth heat by a score of 9.4 – 8.425.

In the final event, with Saint Leo winning 171.975 – 155.900, the Lions tallied an 86.270 while the Falcons recorded an 85.440 in the team event as the Green and Gold rolled to a 258.245 – 241.340 victory in the season-opener.

Saint Leo returns to action on Sunday, March 2 as it hosts Presbyterian at 2 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Center.
