Women's Soccer Falls 4-0 Against Eckerd

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's soccer team hosted it annual Athletes for Athletes game on Wednesday evening at University Turf Stadium. The Lions hosted the Eckerd College Tritons for a midweek Sunshine State Conference game that went the way of the visitors by a tune of 4-0. Leading 1-0 at the half, the visiting added three second half goals to take the victory over the Green & Gold. With the loss the Lions drop to 1-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in SSC play.  

Saint Leo recorded 12 total shots, including four on target. Ainsley Meyer, Ella Van Doren and Marina Fernandez de Paz combined for six of the Lions 12 shots as they all tallied two shots a piece. Chloe Froese and Katherine Neves also registered shots on target. Goalkeeper Emma Guidotti played the full 90 minutes, making two saves in her first collegiate start. The Lions earned seven corner kicks to Eckerd's one.

How It Happened
Saint Leo opened the match with early momentum, generating multiple corners and two shots on goal within the first ten minutes. Despite the pressure, Eckerd capitalized on a chance in the 31st minute when Olivia Ozbolt scored off an assist from Kailani Casazza.

The Lions continued to push forward in search of an equalizer, earning five first-half corners and limiting Eckerd to just two shots before halftime. After the break, the Tritons found their rhythm, extending their lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute on a goal by Jasmine Gallo, followed by a second strike from Ozbolt in the 67th minute. Gaby Morman capped the scoring in the 80th minute with Eckerd's fourth goal.

Saint Leo continued to battle to the final whistle, recording ten second-half shots and creating several dangerous chances, including opportunities from Meyer, Van Doren, and freshman Marina Fernandez de Paz, but were unable to find the back of the net.

UP NEXT
Saint Leo's heads south to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday before returning to host Edward Waters for its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. The Lions and the Fighting Knights are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Boca Raton.
