TAMPA, Fla. – Saint Leo University beach volleyball split its final two contests at the Tampa Tournament to close out the weekend. The Lions opened the day with a 4-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic before dropping the final match 5-0 to Tampa. With the split, Saint Leo is now 11-5 on the season.

Saint Leo jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Sailfish with back-to-back wins at number one and number four. Kayla David and Julia Panko won in straight sets to open the match with a Saint Leo win. LeeAnn Potter and Brenna Reinhard put the Lions up 2-0 with a 21-17 and 21-13 win as the number four pair. PBA picked up its only win of the match at number five. Ignacia Cortinez and Emma Miller clinched the victory for the Lions with a 21-16, and 21-12 win as the number three pair. After PBA tied the number two pairs at one set a piece, Jeanette Henderson and Aliya Fredette-Huffman secured the Lions 4-1 win with a 15-8 win in the third set.

The Lions dropped a second straight match to the Spartans. Tampa shut out the Lions in the final match of the weekend for a 5-0 win. Saint Leo's number one pair of David and Panko rallied in the second set but ultimately it wasn't enough as the Spartans clinched the point with a 26-24 win in the second set.
