SAINT LEO, Fla. – In its 2024 season-opener under first-year head coach Brittney Johnson, the Saint Leo acrobatic & tumbling team lost 256.430-251.190 at home versus No. 13 Augustana on Sunday evening.
To start the competition, the Lions tallied a 9.75-9.45 victory in the pyramid heat of the compulsory event followed by a 9.350-9.00 win during the compulsory toss event. Overall, the Green and Gold won the compulsory category by a 35.350-35.00 margin.
The Vikings won the three-heat performance of acro by a score of 28.650 to 25.250 as Augustana gained a 63.650-60.600 advantage before entering the pyramid category. In the pyramid competition, the Vikings were able to claim all three heats to extend their edge to 92.050-88.500.
In the toss event, the Lions registered scores of 8.35, 8.35, and 9.10, respectively, for a total of 25.800 in the event. Augustana recorded scores of 8.65, 8.65, and 9.60, respectively, to total 26.500. Heading into the fifth event, tumbling, the Vikings led 118.550 to 114.300.
During the tumbling event, Saint Leo won a pair of heats as it posted an 8.20 score in the second heat and then posted a score of 9.350 in the fifth heat. Augustana won the tumbling event by one point, 51.70-50.70, as the Lions trailed by a 170.250-165.000 margin going into the final event of the day.
The Lions registered an 86.190-86.180 victory during the team competition in the last event of the day. As the Vikings won 256.430-251.190.
The Green and Gold are back on the mats Saturday, March 2 as it hosts Concordia (Wisc.) at the Marion Bowman Activities Center, starting at 4 p.m.
