MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Elise McDonald found the back of the net for the first time in 2024 and it proved to be all the Saint Leo University women's soccer team needed to earn a road SSC victory.
Morgan Gamin added an insurance goal while sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Goetzer kept the Barry Buccaneers off the scoreboard in a 2-0 Lions win. Saint Leo improves to 6-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
Goetzer made a season-high nine saves in the victory for her fifth complete game shutout. Including the two goal scorers, five total Lions recorded shots on the night.

SAINT LEO 2, BARRY 0
- The Buccaneers went on the attack early with a trio of shots in the first six and half minutes forcing Goetzer to make a pair of saves.
- Goetzer made three more saves over the next 26 minutes before the Lions fired off their first shot of the game.
- In the 33rd, McDonald fired off the first shot of the game for the visiting team and connected with the back of the net to break the scoreless tie with her first goal of the season. Gamin entered the game in the 33rd minute and made an impact immediately. As the Lions pressured the Bucs' defense, she pursued a loose ball deep into the box and sent it across to an open McDonald, who headed the ball into the back of the net for the game's first score.
- Saint Leo kept the pressure on Barry over the final 13 minutes of the opening half, not allowing the Bucs to register a shot.
- In the 44th minute, Pascoe collected a loose ball at the top of the box and chipped it to Gamin who sent it past the diving Barry keeper for a 2-0 advantage.
- The Lions ended the first half with a perfect shooting percentage as both shots found the back of the net.
- Barry opened the second half just as it did in the opening half attacking with force. Goetzer was forced to make three saves on three shots by the Bucs in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
- Midway through the second half, the teams traded off target shots as the Lions looked to add on and the Bucs attempted to get on the scoreboard.
- Barry turned up its attack with four shots in the final 10 minutes but only one was on target. Goetzer made crucial save in the 88th minute to keep her clean sheet intact.
Saint Leo earned its first game over the Buccaneers since a double overtime 2-1 victory in 2021.
