BRADENTON, Fla. – The #3 Saint Leo University Women's tennis team began its postseason on a high note Thursday, as the fourth-seeded Lions blanked fifth-seeded #19 Florida Southern 4-0 in the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinals at IMG Academy Tennis Courts.
Saint Leo took the first point in the Doubles stages, winning two of the three matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomores
Jade Bellegy and
Claudia Borbon Roca shut out the Kennedi Brown-Kelly Klaren duo 6-0 before the Mocs tied the second set. The Lions needed the third-best duo in the country in Sixth-year
Marta Vicens Miquel and Junior Lavinia Lancelotti for the final win as the veteran pair delivered, defeating Laia Pasini and Laura Vetter 6-4.
In the Singles series, Vicens Miquel, recently ranked third nationally, took down #69 Pasini 6-3, 6-4 before Obermeier bested Vetter in straight sets 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore
Kamilya Shailina made up for her Doubles defeat with the match point for the Green & Gold, defeating Vivien Charvatova 6-4, 6-3.
The Lions advance to the semifinals to take on first-seeded #1 Barry; first serve is set for 2 p.m.
