DADE CITY, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Women's golf team fought to maintain a third-place standing throughout the final round Tuesday, but late stroke woes ultimately got the best of the Lions, finishing the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship tied for fourth with an overall score of 901 (293/301/307), +37 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
The Green & Gold tied with Nova Southeastern overall, while the University of Tampa edged both the Lions and the Sharks by one stroke to finish with an overall score of 900 (300/295/305), +36 and take third place. Runners-up Rollins bested Saint Leo by five strokes (896, +32) while Lynn took home the title with a team score of 876 (288/288/300), +12, breaking its own conference record for the best score at Lake Jovita.
Sophomores
Pia Perthen and
Maya Cote finished the tournament just outside the Top Ten, each shooting an overall score of 226, +10. Cote additionally walked away from the green with the third-most pars in the 2023 championship (38).
Sophomore
Cajsa Strandberg boasted the field's second-best stroke score through 15 holes (-1) before finishing with the Lions' best Round Three score of 74, +2.
